Local Council Met July 19

Staunton Senior Center Local Council discussed the Forty Years of Fun Fair and the upcoming fall dance at its July 19 meeting.

Lynn Harris, center director, and Lori Pullin, program director, reported that 16 vendors were at the fair including 2 food vendors, organizations with information booths, individuals with yard sale items and several others selling jewelry, toys and more. Around 2 p.m., a dark cloud headed into the area and many vendors packed up in fear of lots of rain. The rain was only a drizzle for a few minutes, and the fair continued with musical performances.

The upcoming dance is being planned by an enthusiastic committee of local council and community members. Rita Wilson heads the committee and is leading the group to create a phenomenal “Stroll Down Memory Lane” with the band, Sentimental Journey, in honor of Staunton Senior Center’s ruby (40th) year of service to Staunton and western Augusta County.

Council chairman Michael Thompson called for members to consider potential new members to fill at least two seats on council at the September annual meeting.

SSC Local Council welcomes visitors. The next meeting will be Thursday, Aug. 16 at 4 p.m. in the Center.
